  • The most popular quantum key distribution protocol (QKD) is BB84.
Besides many other protocols a specific combination of two such protocols, SARG04 and the Six State protocol, is presented and analyzed.
Common attacks which motivate the need for a concept like device Independence (DI) is the photon number splitting attack.
This attack and a newly developed combined attack with other malicious devices will be analyzed for their efficiency.
Finally the concept of DI will be introduced.
Therefore the need and the state of the art will be explained alongside the limitations of this concept.
